New Workshop – Getting Started on the Internet and u3a Website

Do you find yourself over worried or not confident using the internet? Are you concerned about “digital safety”?
Do you know if properly set up and used how much you’re able to do on the internet. Such as connecting with friends and family, carry out tasks like shopping and banking, and access services such as the GP surgery and the local council. The internet can also be a great source of entertainment and education.
This new workshop will start with the basics and and then we will spend one-to-one with you and your laptop or iPad helping you practice to become more confident using the Internet, and including becoming familiar with our own u3a in Bury St Edmunds website.
Some of the topics we will cover will include:
- What is a search engine…all the different types: Google, Bing, Safari etc
- Terminology and jargon
- Using the settings function within your browser
- Privacy settings
- Appearance
- Cookies
- Using the bookmark manager function
- How to find it in the different browsers
- How to sort your favourite pages including renaming the page as a favourite
- How to use history function for searching
- How to clear cache and why this is good thing
- Using anti virus software
- Using password managers
- Becoming familiar with u3a in BSE website
- How to login
- Navigating through the pages
- How to renew your membership online
Please email Jennifer at news@u3aburystedmunds.co.uk and register your interest. To ensure adequate one-to-one is provided for attendees, the workshop will be limited to 9 members and if there is demand it will be repeated.

- Fee to cover costs of room hire, approximately £5.00per person (firm costs to be confirmed dependent on bookings).

- Note: the workshop will focus on using the internet, not emails. Should you need help with emails, support is available at the regular Monday morning Interest Group Computer Clinic
