SUMMARY:Monthly Talk - Constable; the Artist Who Couldn't Get Arrested
DESCRIPTION:by Kim Smith\, Dedham Vale tour guide.\nMarking the 250th anniversary of John Constable’s birth in 1776\, the talk will provide an insight into his life and times\, as well as his surprising link to a modern celebrity. Despite his contemporary status as arguably Britain’s greatest landscape artist\, he sold very few paintings in his lifetime and was dogged by bad luck in both his professional and private lives. However\, whatever misfortune befell him\, Constable was admirably stoic and refused to give up.’

SUMMARY:Monthly Talk - The story of climbing Denali\, the highest point in North America
DESCRIPTION:In 2023 we enjoyed the wonderful story of climbing Everest from Amanda Richmond. With both Everest and Kilimanjaro ‘under her belt’\, Amanda wondered if the Seven Summits (the highest point on each continent) were within her grasp. Amanda then climbed Denali in 2017 and this is her story of the ascent. \nDenali in Alaska is the highest point in North America. Although only 6190m in height\, it is super-tricky\, mainly because of the difficulty of predicting cold\, wind and snow. Denali is probably the most strenuous of the Seven Summits. It requires that climbers know advanced glacier skills\, rope team travel\, and involves heavier load carries.
