|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every month that begins at 10:00 am on day First of the month, repeating indefinitely

Our group takes a light hearted look at music appreciation. We have started to look at basic musical structures with the intent of seeing how music has developed and diverged over the centuries. Individuals take a lead, if they wish, on presenting a composer or musical topic. Examples are played of either the ‘form’ or of the composer on a Bluetooth enabled CD player. Enjoying music and each other’s company is a priority! New members welcome.

With a shared obsession and love of reading, we are a small group who thoroughly enjoy discussing a diverse range of books. We have no set genre. One of the joys we find of being in a book group is reading books we wouldn’t necessarily choose.

An event every month that begins at 2:00 pm on day First of the month, repeating indefinitely

Our aim is to promote friendship amongst u3a members through reading. The group does not have a formal leader, but functions as an informal co-operative. Each monthly meeting is led by the member who suggested the book for that month. At the moment we are holding our meetings using Zoom, but once it is more Covid safe a convenient face-to-face meeting place will be established. A quarterly reading list is assembled from suggestions submitted by members of the group. Over…

An event every week that begins at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, repeating indefinitely

The u3a Choir is a friendly, informal group with about 30 members that sings a wide variety of music, usually in four parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) and while it is helpful to be able to read music, some of our members cannot and they enjoy themselves just as much. An audition is definitely not required! As an example of the range of music we sing, this term’s repertoire includes: Cantique de Jean Racine, Faure Ave Verum, Elgar Linden Lea,…

An event every month that begins at 10:00 am on day Third of the month, repeating indefinitely

We have read through, in translation, Aeschylus’s Oresteia trilogy, and are moving on to glance at Sophocles’ Electra, then to read Euripides’s play of the same name. We plan to go on to read some further plays with characteristically strong female characters, and some plays based on other aspects of the Trojan War. At our last session, we welcomed a visitor able to share more detailed knowledge of the Greek theatre and dramatists, and able to give us some examples…

This is a conversation and reading group rather than a teaching group and members should have a good knowledge of German, with experience of actually speaking the language, as well as enthusiasm to participate in discussions. We divide our meeting into two parts: Part One: The reading and discussion, in German,…

We normally meet on the first Thursday of each month (except January) in the morning mostly at 10.30am – but occasionally this has to be changed due to availability of venues or clashes of events. Members make their own way to the selected Church or village when a talk and tour with a local guide is organised. Coffee is usually arranged and a venue for lunch is suggested for those who wish to stay on. New members welcome.
