Guidance and Advice for Group Organisers

Interest Group Organisers are likely to have some knowledge in the subject they are leading, however this is not necessary.

The important thing is to gather enough people in a Group who have some knowledge to share on the subject, or are willing to find out about the subject and share their findings.

Group Organisers should not expect to shoulder all the work required to run a Group, nor deliver all the material for study. Group Members are expected to help out with devolved roles or research, as seems fit and appropriate.

Help Running a Group

There is comprehensive help in running Groups from the u3a Committee, via the Interest Group Coordinator. A lot of more in-depth resources are also available from u3a national office – click here

As Group Organiser, you have a responsibility to the Committee of the Bury St Edmunds u3a and to your Group Members – however, it is not a role that you should find daunting.

Groups are the life blood of the u3a – so, without you, the Group Organiser, there wouldn’t be a u3a.
