At 25 Ian was considered to be the youngest newspaper editor in Britain. He occupied the editor’s chair of several daily and weekly publications in the UK’s regional press. He is a former vice-chair of the UK’s Defence and Security Media Advisor Committee (‘D-Notice Committee’) as well as being a founding member of the UK Government’s Committee for the Safety of Journalists.
